Seminar organized by IRIS, with the support of Avisa Partners and the chair of major contemporary strategic issues from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, as part of the Observatory of European strategic interests. Around two conferences, National perspectives on contested global commons : convergences and divergences / The possible emergence of true common interests and a true common approach ?

European prosperity and security depend, in a large part, on Europe’s ability to access freely maritime, air, space and cyber domains, traditionally considered and labelled as global commons. The covid-19 pandemic and its highly disruptive effects on international trade have revealed how dependent European economies had become from global value chains and economy. Beyond the fundamental importance of these domains for the global economy, they also bear a very high strategic value as they enable military projection of force in order to achieve security goals. The current geopolitical context triggers the question of the ability of Europeans to develop a common and systematic approach when it comes to accessing those global commons:
> Are Europeans able to define as strategic interests a free, secure and sustainable access to global commons? Is there a common perception of interests and threats in this field across Europe?
> What level of ambition can they realistically define in this domain??
