Gender Equality : A Comparaison France-Taiwan

Webconference organized around the topic : Gender Equality : A Comparison France-Taiwan.

This webinar aims at introducing the gender equality issue in a comparative approach analyzing the examples of France and Taiwan. Gender equality is the state of equal ease of access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender. It is acknowledged by the United Nations as a fundamental human right as well as a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.

Taiwan has been the first Asian country legalizing the same-sex marriage, and appears to be a model at the Asian level of progressive developments as regards gender equality, notably under the leadership of President Tsai Ing-wen, who became in 2016 the first elected woman president of Taiwan. It currently ranks 2nd globally (behind Belgium) in the 2023 OECD Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI). France is also actively engaged in the promotion of gender equality in international forums and insists on this goal to be included in all issues from inequality reduction to sustainable development, peace and security, defense and promotion of fundamental rights, as well as climate and economic issues.

The speakers will explore not only the legacy of both countries as regards the gender issue, but also examine the road ahead and the challenges at the international level and in the particular case of Asian societies.
